Pre-School
Our Pre School is located away from the mai
n nursery within a recently refurbished classroom.
We offer:
- A well planned learning environment
- An extensive range of resources and equipment
- A fantastic large outdoor area
- Close links with our First School and other local primary schools (to aid transition)
- Small groups that cater for individual needs
- A child led curriculum
- Highly trained staff
Children attending our Pre School are offered a priority place with our Reception class when starting school.
The Environment
- Large and spacious, designed with three year olds in mind
- Equipment and resources that promote discovery as well as encourage development and sustain curiosity
- A cosy area for children to rest and nap if needed
- Toilet and wash rooms within the classroom
- A dedicated kitchen area for preparation of snacks
- Our Pre School has direct access to a large garden area and ‘mini village’ including a real life shop, builders yard and post office
- Children also have weekly music and movement lessons and daily access to the story telling tower, dance studio and gym
The Staff
The staffs show keen interest in all children and their families and will strive to build a positive relationship that will support each child’s development and learning.
Our highly trained teacher and practitioners consider the individual interests and development of all children by observing, recording and reflecting on the experiences offered and the planning of individual programmes to fulfil these.
- Our staff are specifically trained within this age group
- Staff responsibility is to be on the floor playing alongside and with the children
- Helping to sustain play and develop creative thinking and communication skills.
- The staff to child ratio is one to eight in the Pre School
The Routine
The routine within Pre School becomes more structured due to the need for a daily Literacy and Numeracy input. Children within the class have a daily phonics session which introduces them to early reading and writing skills and knowledge. Games, adult led play and free flow play enables staff to introduce basic Numeracy skills such as counting and knowledge of shape and colour as well as problem solving and estimation skills.
Children eat within the main school dining room and share outdoor experiences with children from the First School. This enables friendships and sharing of skills across the ages. Children are taught table manners and how to eat appropriately and staff sits with children to offer a positive role model.
Settling In
Starting Pre School is a big step for most children. They leave the comfort of Nursery and sometimes high expectation can be placed on them; we understand this and support each child both emotionally and socially. If children have a strong sense of belonging they will thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
What you should bring
- Spare change of clothes and underwear
- Rain coat and wellington boots/sun hat and sun cream
- Weekly school diary
- Any special creams that need administering
- Photographs of special people in their lives
By the end of the year we aim for children to have excelled to the best of their ability and to be ready for the big step into First School.
