Toddlers Between 2 and 3 Years Old

Children who are ready for the next step will move into this room around their 2nd birthday.  This decision will completely depend on each child’s individual development.

The Toddler 2 to 3 Room is a large room which is split into areas of interest, for example:

  • role play area
  • construction area
  • creative workshop
  • story/reading den

These areas are accessible to all children at all times.  This helps to encourage self choice, independence and also allows children to embrace their individual interests, likes and dislikes.

Children’s learning is supported by a key person who observes each child’s development through their chosen activities.  Their role is then to plan activities that will encourage their development, therefore creating opportunities for the ‘next step’.

Children in this room have constant access to the ’great outdoors’.  We have a vast play area surrounding the Nursery which offers opportunities for:

  • quiet reflection
  • imaginative play
  • physical play
  • exploring the senses
  • observation of living things within the environment
  • creative play

We are extremely lucky to be situated within the grounds of Scarisbrick Hall with over 50 acres of land to explore which we take full advantage of this.  We take children from this class for at least one walk per day which will include either a visit to see the sheep and cows or a visit to feed the ducks.

We also have regular visits to other areas of the school including:

  • Story Telling Tower– a renovated turret that has been purposefully created to encourage listening, imagination and excitement for literature
  • Dance Studio – this has a state of the art sound and lighting system to promote movement and music
  • Gym – the children use this space for gymnastics, games and football skills

We have a weekly music lesson which is delivered by Jenny Wren  from Kindermusic.  These sessions are a fantastic opportunity for children to express themselves through music and also learn the basics of rhythm, beat and tempo.
